Having just been away on our own romantic getaway for 3 nights to Kol Kol Log Cabins, this guest post from Jenni could not have come at a better time. Jenni is the owner and operator of Southey Travel. They are a specialised travel company that tailor-makes itineraries within the luxury market in and around South Africa and their niche is honeymoons and family travel. What I love about these 4 romantic getaway picks is that Jenni has stayed at them herself so she knows what’s she’s talking about when recommending them.
One thing we kept on saying on our 3 night getaway was that we really need to do this more often. We were very fortunate to be able to get away for 3 nights but even if you can just make it a night…do it! This is really something we would like to put into our schedules now and know that we’ve got this to look forward to every year. These 4 Romantic Getaways from Jenni are definitely on my radar for our next romantic rendevous.
4 Romantic Getaways You Need To Get To
As a wife & mum I know that feeling of just wanting to get away for a night (preferably 2 if we’re honest) for some quality time with my hubby so here are 4 of my favourite romantic (but affordable) couple getaway spots that I’ve hand picked! Being in the travel industry has its perks and that includes getting to visit many wonderful properties! I have been fortunate enough to visit all of the below and I hope the selection inspires you to take the getaway you’ve been thinking about!
Mosaic Sanctuary, Stanford
So there are 2 accommodation options here and my personal favourite is the Lagoon Lodge. It’s 5 star, has all the bells and whistles and is everything I want in a getaway with my love! The 5 wooden suites are set amongst the milkwood trees with gorgeous views across the lagoon and up the mountains. What better way to end off a day than with G&T’s on your deck before climbing into the huge bath for a long soak (when we’re out of water restrictions of course!).
Food is also a huge part of our lives and Mosaic Sanctuary doesn’t disappoint here either! All produce is fresh from their gardens and with an in-house baker their pastries are just mouth watering! Dinners are delicious and offer seasonal ingredients together with fabulous local SA wines! You actually can’t go wrong!
Abalone Lodge, Hermanus
Just let your imagination take flight for a moment whilst I set the scene! It’s whale season and you’re lying in your lavish kingsize bed sipping on tea or coffee watching the whales frolic out in the bay! Ah!
The suites at Abalone Lodge are just gorgeous, all natural colours, beautiful big doors overlooking either the ocean or their garden and so tranquil you might struggle to leave and return to normal life! The property is within walking distance of the town so visiting some of Hermanus’s local restaurants should definitely be part of your plan!
Schoone Oordt, Swellendam
If you’re a fire in the bedroom kind of person like myself, then this boutique hotel is just for you! My hubby and myself have even lit the fire in summer then turned the air con on full blast just because we love a fire in the bedroom so much! Their suites are just beautifully appointed with large king size beds, mini bar and small reading nook. The bathrooms are just divine with a large shower, ball-and-claw freestanding bath and matching basins. In summer there’s nothing nicer than lounging around the gorgeous pool!
Breakfast is a treat to behold! You can help yourself to some muesli and yoghurt (the muesli is made by the owner and you’ll want the recipe once you’ve tasted it) before you have a 2-course platted breakfast served to you! My favourite? The eggs benedict of course!
Aquila Private Game Reserve
Who doesn’t love going on safari. From tea and good old fashioned rusks before your early morning game drive to telling stories around the campfire after dinner. Aquila is home to the Big Five and you’re certain to see at least 4 of the 5; the leopard being the most elusive!
Many of the rooms have magnificent views over the reserve and the rooms have all the modern comforts we expect when we take time away from home! Meals are always grand affairs with a wide selection of dishes to choose from so you certainly will never feel hungry! My favourite thing about a safari minibreak is the sense of space and peacefulness the open bush offers.

About The Owner
Hi! I’m Jenni. I started my business about 3 years ago because I wanted to offer my clients a more personal touch. Having worked for some of South Africa’s largest travel companies I know how clients just become another figure in the profit column and I wanted to offer more than that. Over the years I’ve not only grown my business but I’ve also grown my worldwide friend base because my clients start out as clients but end as friends!
