We were trying out a new bay sitter so thought it best that we go for something to eat close by so that we were contactable and within close proximity should we be needed for anything. Wanting to try somewhere new and different to our usual (cause this is how we roll these days) I had heard that Peddlars and Co (otherwise known as Peddlars on the Bend) had recently redone their restaurant and if their website was anything to go by, we thought we would give it a try.
They actually have 4 different eating and drinking experiences under one roof and which one you choose depends on your mood. Our options were between Volare and Graciales. Volare looking a bit more expensive and smarter, we opted for Graciales as we were in the mood for more casual and relaxed.
The decor of Graciales is laid back but in a very cool and beautiful way. Their hanging lights made from Consol jars are beautiful and there was plenty to look at and feel inspired by. That’s what’s so enjoyable about trying new places. It’s not just a new place, it’s a new experience and even just that can add a bit more excitement to one’s relationship. I am not one to go sit at a bar as neither my hubby nor I are big drinkers, but their bar is very inviting and made me feel like we should have sat down and sipped some cocktails. Next time, we will definitely need to do that.
Although we had had a look at the menu beforehand, which is tapas type food, when we got there we actually both weren’t in the mood for meat so our options were a bit minimal. Luckily though, we were given the option of ordering from the Oak Terrace menu. I had the Deep fried calamari with harissa aioli with a side salad instead of the chips, and hubby had the Sustainable Hake & Chips. I think you can tell a lot about a restaurant from your side salad. Often it’s just a half effort, token put together and not much care goes into it. This salad had a very nice dressing on, looked nice and fresh and was thoroughly enjoyable. In fact, both our meals were really good. The calamari was tender and tasty, and the panko crumbed hake was also very tasty.
I’m still undecided about taking pics of our meals. For now, besides often forgetting, I have decided not to as it disrupts the energy of our date night. I am wanting to share our experiences with all of you out there but our date nights are primarily for my husband and I and I don’t want to lose focus of that. I also like eating my food hot so don’t want to waste time fiddling with the phone trying to get the perfect picture. Here are some pics though of some items on the menu given to me by the restaurant, which looking at them now makes me think, what were we thinking? Not feeling like meat! Take me there now! Yum!
If there’s a chocolate fondant on the menu, we have to try it and I am happy to say that this one did not disappoint. Our waitress, Nene, was really good at giving us advice and just had a lovely way about her. All in all, it was a great night out. We felt like something a bit more vibey and relaxed and this is what we got with great food as well. I look forward to returning when we can try more of what’s on offer at Graciales because I think we missed out on what looked like some delicious items.
