We decided some comedy would be good for our 4th Date Night so we booked for Tats Nkonzo as I had seen his show advertised and thought we’d give him a try.
I’m really not good at booking things ahead of time but my commitment to Date Nights
is definitely forcing me to be a bit more proactive when it comes to planning ahead and committing. And my commitment was definitely tested for this date night.
The weekend before the show (the show was on Tuesday night) we had gone camping to Beaverlac for a friend’s birthday party. Long story short, we come back from the weekend with my husband having a possible broken rib from his mountain bike ride. This happened on Saturday and we’re going to a comedy show on Tuesday night…to laugh…from the belly…and the ribs. Of all the things we could be going to, somehow we landed up going to a comedy show which we hoped would be funny but not too funny as it hurt when my husband laughed!
The weather on the night of the show was atrocious. I may have mentioned before that I am really not good with venturing out when it’s pouring with rain. Why go out when you can stay in? But we had booked tickets, we had committed to going, so rain and all, broken ribs and all, we were going…and off we went.
Going to Tats Nkonzo is a great thing to do for Date Night except for one thing…Tats is seriously cute! Pretty sexy actually, so ask for forgiveness beforehand about possibly having a bit of an intake of breath when he comes out on stage. I was not prepared 😉
Besides the very serious cuteness factor, the show itself was great! I won’t say too much about it as you definitely should go see him when he is on again. The theatre that it was held in, the Golden Arrow Studio at the Baxter was a lovely small intimate space. What was especially great about his show was his amazing stage presence and ability to connect so well with the audience, in a very real and honest way. It was more than just a comedy show. There was a very poignant and valuable message for all of us. Unfortunately, his show is finished now but when he comes again, be sure to book well in advance!
Until then though, if you’re looking for some laughter in your life, be sure to book for the Jive Comedy Festival as listed in my 5 Top Picks Of The Week.
