Burn your fears. Say what!? Hear me out here…my husband and I did this last week for our date night at home and it was very powerful and helped us to feel more connected. As we are going through some struggles at the moment in our lives, I realised that we were on the edge of going two ways in dealing with things…feeling resentful and letting our issues push us apart or coming together and tackling our struggles together. We chose the latter. So we lit a candle, got paper and pen and each took a moment to write down our fears and doubts with regard to ourselves and what is currently going on for us. We then read it out loud to each other and burned them in the fire. After that, we wrote down what we appreciate and what we welcome into our lives. We then read that to each other and decided to individually read what we wrote every morning as an affirmation. The shift between us was huge as we realised that no matter what happens, if we are strong together, we’ll be ok. For my full blog post on this click here.
Lunch Special at The National
If I was living in Johburg, this is a place I would definitely want to check out. We need something like this in Cape Town guys! The National’s organic food looks and sounds delicious! If you can do a lunch date, they run a daily lunch special from 12:00 to 16:00 otherwise their supper club looks like a winner for a healthy yet delicious date night.
Dim Sum Special at The Good Luck Club
Dim Sum addicts rejoice. For just R100, you can enjoy a 10-piece Dim Sum platter at The Good Luck Club in Illovo. The special runs every Tuesday between 17:00 and 22:00.
Sushi Specials at Yamitsuki
This popular sushi bar in Bedfordview offers some really affordable deals. On Mondays, you can get two plates of sushi for the price of one (provided they are the same colour/price). This is definitely something all sushi loving couples need to get in on.
Night out for 2 at Montecasino
For only R300, you and your partner can enjoy dinner, drinks and a movie (or ten-pin bowling if that’s your thing) at the popular Montecasino. This sounds like a fun date night idea to me!
Date Night Special at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton
Surprise your partner with an overnight getaway at the Maslow Hotel. This package includes a romantic dinner to the value of R500 at Lacuna Bistro and a complimentary bottle of wine.
Romantic Overnight Stay and Spa Pampering
If you’re looking for some TLC and alone time, why not make a weekend of it? Call a babysitter/housesitter and escape to Hartebeespoort dam to enjoy some quality time with the one you love in a cozy setting. Choose from a variety of packages to find the one that fits your budget (fortunately, Swedish massages are included in all of them).
International Beer Day Festival (5th August)
Bring your picnic blankets and something warm and head down to the beautiful Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge for the International Beer Day Music Festival. There will be live performances from some of the country’s top bands and musicians (including Goodluck, The Kiffness and CrashCarBurn to name a few) as well as beer and food galore.
Karaoke Sunday (6th August)
For some, the idea of getting up and singing in front of a crowd is a nightmare but for others it’s a great way to let loose and have fun. If you and your partner are up for it, Kitcheners brings you karaoke from 18:00 til midnight every Sunday. This might be something really different to do for date night. So go ahead and move out of your comfort zones!
Lord of the Dance at Montecasino (15th – 31st August)
Although I saw this show many years ago, I have not forgotten how spectacular it was. This month Lord of the Dance returns with brand new staging, costumes and choreography as well as cutting-edge technology, dancing robots and world champion acrobats. It’s something I would definitely recommend doing for date night.
Tuesday Night Comedy at Kitcheners
Tuesday nights at Kitcheners are reserved for standup comedy. Entrance is R30 and a resident DJ will be on the decks providing the music.
Private Horse-ride and Picnic for Two
Just because it’s winter, it doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors 24/7. In South Africa, we’re fortunate to have a number of sunny days during the cold season. So why not layer up and treat yourselves to a little adventure and some fresh air? This package lets you and your partner enjoy an intimate horse-ride along a scenic route, followed by a champagne picnic. Picnic spots are equipped with a picnic blanket and chairs; you’ll also receive bubbly, still water and a basket of treats and snacks to feast on. The cost is R600 per person.
Le Movie Club: Jules and Jim at The Bioscope (31st August)
Sometimes you’re in the mood to keep things simple. In which case, watching a movie together (after you’ve grabbed some dinner, perhaps) is a great idea! The Bioscope Independent Cinema in downtown Johannesburg screens enchanting art-house classics and small films from all over the world. This month, Le Movie Club brings a French romantic drama that sounds perfect for date night.
