I had the great pleasure of meeting Bridget and Matthew (both 30 years old) who were having breakfast next to us on our Night Away in Kalk Bay at Olympia. They met in Pietermaritzburg and now live in the Southern Suburbs together.
They looked like a very loving couple and I was quite surprised when they told us how long they had been together. I thought for sure they were a young couple newly in love 🙂
How long have you been together?
We’ve been together for 13 years. We met when I was 16 and he was 17. We smooched behind the couch at his friend’s party that I had snuck out of my house to go to. We got married last year and have no kids yet 😉
What do you love most about each other?
(Bridget) We’re both introverts and so enjoy time on our own. What I love about our relationship is that we can be alone together. There’s no stress when we’re together as we can just relax in each other’s company. We both just get each other and being together just makes sense.
(Matthew) I agree. It’s a hard question to answer as there are so many things I love about her, it’s hard to pinpoint just one or two.
How do you stay connected?
Although our relationship feels very easy, one of the ways we like to connect is by reading out loud to each other. We try organise activities for each other. We try discover new things to keep it exciting. In fact, today we were meant to have breakfast here at Olympia and then head off for a walk but because the fires have destroyed a lot of the walks around here, we will have to change our plan. We’ve recently discovered acro yoga which involves having a lot of trust with the other person and we’ve been doing this together which has been great fun!
Thank you Bridget and Matthew for taking the time to talk to us. It was so lovely meeting you and I wish you many more beautiful years together.
