Before I get to the title of this post, I fee like I must mention that it’ s been a while since I’ve posted anything on my blog. Even just writing now feels so foreign to me, it’s been that long. I feel like I should have an explanation of some sorts as to where I’ve been and why I’ve been so quiet. There are a few reasons but the main one is that I’ve started a new business and I’ve been focusing a lot of my energy there which has left me with very little time for anything else, in particular my blog.
My husband and I also had our worst year of sleepless nights last year and I wasn’t eating gluten, dairy and sugar so date nights going out were few and far between. To be honest, we fell off the date night band wagon a bit but are committed this year to bringing them back again as we really can feel the difference it makes to our relationship. In saying that though, I’m not sure whether I’m going to be blogging about them anymore. You see, I don’t know if I’m really a blogger. What I mean is, when my husband and I go out for dinner, I don’t really want to be taking pictures of our meal. I don’t really want to be documenting our time together because I want to be present with him and actually enjoy our time together. I don’t want to be writing a blog post in my head while we’re on our date nights. I started this blog because I wanted to nurture, nourish and improve our relationship. I don’t feel like I can truly do that when I write about it after…maybe sometimes…but not all the time.
I’m still figuring this all out.
So where does this leave my blog?
Well, my blog is about date nights. It’s about helping, inspiring and encouraging you to spend more time together. To be truthful about relationships and marriage. To put in the time and effort that’s needed to have a healthy and fulfilling relationship. And I realised that I don’t necessarily need to be the one giving you the ideas all the time. It doesn’t need to be my husband and I going on date nights all the time. It can be other people as well. The point is to feel inspired and commit to going on regular date nights whether out or at home. So, while I’m figuring all this out, I’d like to introduce you to a really cute couple, Chad and Natalie, who synchronistically popped up in my inbox. They have started a YouTube channel, It’s a Date and will be posting a video of their date night every week which I will be sharing here. Here’s a bit more about them.
Chad and Natalie: It’s A Date
“We’ve been together for almost 10 years, married for 3. Not much has changed on our journey, except for one thing…our excitement for trying new experiences together.
We are both from Joburg and have spent the majority of our twenties working abroad in the entertainment industry and taking advantage of that opportunity to feed our travel bug.
Natalie enjoys spending her time connecting with the outdoors, whether it’s going on new hiking trails or practicing yoga.
Chad (who is also a professional magician) enjoys playing golf, but also enjoys any thrilling adventure that gets his adrenaline pumping, such as paintballing and skydiving.
One of the many things we have in common is our love for the ocean, so we take any opportunity we can to try new water activities, with our favorite (by far) being surfing which is challenging when the nearest ocean is a few hours drive away.
We started our YouTube channel “It’s A Date”, not only because we love our date nights and sharing new experiences together, but also to prove that date nights are not only limited to the classic “movie and dinner”. We want to share ideas to anyone else who is looking for something fun to try, whether for couples or someone trying to find an idea for a first date. The channel plans to include weekly episodes that focuses on having fun together and also reviews the different ideas.”
Here’s this week’s date night idea at Bounce which looks like a lot of fun and is located nationally.
