As we find ourselves heading into October, I can feel my anxiety levels rising ever so slightly as I start to think of all the things that need to be done before December arrives which at this point, feels like just around the corner. The kids are on holiday now but as soon as we go back to school, it’s all systems go for end of year madness, planning, organising and all the other stuff that comes with it. Right, I can already feel my heart rate increasing as I write this so let’s just focus on where we are right now. Nearly October. As always, there is never a dull moment in our beautiful city so do yourselves a favour and book that baby sitter, granny, aunty, uncle, whoever it may be, and get out together! Trust me, you will feel like a better version of yourself for making the effort and giving time to your relationship.
Of course, some of us can’t go out all the time but that doesn’t mean you can’t do something at home together. How about doing a 21 day relationship challenge together? Paula Quinsee is a relationship expert and life coach and I came across her challenge just the other day. Have a look, discuss it together and see if it’s something you’d like to do. Personally, I think you probably have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I have just signed up myself.
La Parada Constantia Nek
We recently went to La Parada in Bree Street and while the food was excellent, it was too noisy and smoky inside resulting in it not being quite for us. However, their long anticipated branch in Constantia Nek has officially opened its doors, and judging from the outside and some pictures I’ve seen, it looks like they’ve done a beautiful transformation of what was there previously. We are hopefully trying it out this week so I’ll be sure to let you know how it is.
Nomad Bistro Fusion
I haven’t been to Nomad Bistro Fusion yet, a relatively new restaurant in 33 Waterkant Street, Cape Town but have heard some good reviews on it. They have a date night special where you get 1 starter, 2 x prime burgers and a dessert for just R200! Give them a try and let me know what you think.
Riebeek Valley Hotel
This looks like a great deal from Daddy’s Deals. If you’re looking to get away for a night or two, R699 for the two of you at Riebeek Valley Hotel, 4 star hotel, is a good deal. I hope I’m not too late in getting this out and that you can still benefit from it.
Elgin Hills Luxury Tented Camp
This might not be for everyone but if you love nature and keeping it a bit more basic, Elgin Hills Luxury Tented Camp looks like a really beautiful place to escape to for a romantic get away. While I can enjoy camping as much as staying in a beautiful hotel, there is something about a luxury tent that strikes a balance between the two just perfectly.
Return Of The Drive-In
Ever felt nostalgic about drive-in movies and wished we still had somewhere that did that? Well, there is! We do! Right in the heart of the city centre actually, at 2 Somerset Road, Green Point. As quoted from their site: “The Pop-Up Drive-In offers every conceivable cinematic convenience: from freshly popped popcorn (with our homemade, natural pop spice) to food and drinks from a selection of Cape Town’s Food Vendors, Marley Coffee, Samsung’s Biltong, massage at the movies and vintage stalls.” For more info, have a look at their site here.
Gin-Making Course (29th October)
I have to admit I’m not a big drinker so from that perspective, this isn’t something that appeals to me, however if the two of you appreciate your gin, then this looks like a fun thing to do together. I firmly believe in knowing where our food, drinks etc. come from so what better way to learn that than making it yourself. From learning about the history and different types of gin, to manufacturing techniques, to making your very own gin from scratch, this gin making course looks really good! You can find out more info here.
Pinotage On Tap (29th October)
Once again, this annual event, Pinotage On Tap, takes place at Diemersfontein. Diemersfontein will always hold a special place in my heart as we got married here but that really has nothing to do with Pinotage On tap other than I can tell you it’s a beautiful venue with really good wine 😉 We have been many years ago and it is guaranteed to be a fun event. If you are going to enjoy the free flowing wine, please be responsible and don’t drink and drive!
BANFF Mountain Film Festival (21-29 October)
Another annual event and one that I just know I will have no problem convincing my husband to go to. The BANFF Mountain Film Festival showcases some of the world’s best mountain filmmakers and enables you to experience this world of adventure such as climbing, base jumping, alpine skiing, kayaking plus more through the medium of the big screen. I have no doubt that you will be amazed, bewildered and in awe of what some people out there in the world can do.
Another month done and dusted. I know that life is busy, I know that times are tough financially, trust me, we are feeling all of these things, but I also know that our relationships are the things in our lives that really matter. So whether it’s something from here or something else, make your relationship a priority and do something together.
Spend time together. Put the effort in. Communicate with one another. Love one another. Invest in your relationship if you want it to last.
As always, if you have anything to add, please do so in the comments below. Feel free to share this post with friends, family and anyone else you think might need some ideas to help them go on a date night. Or just share it to help share the love. If you haven’t already, it would be great if you could like my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, Instagram, subscribe to my blog for everything date night related and…and…ok. I’ll stop there, I think that’s enough requests for now. Much appreciation if you do any of the above 🙂
