This past weekend we were so grateful to be hosted by the Hout Bay Manor for a very relaxing night away.
I don’t like to divulge too much information of my home whereabouts but let’s just say I am rather familiar with Hout Bay and, I will admit, rather biased about this beautiful little town/village/ suburb. Okay, okay, you get it, I’ll just trust that there are no stalkers reading and say I live in Hout bay and I honestly think it is one of the best places to live in Cape Town.
Personally what I love about it is it’s small village type feel mixed in with a bit of a city feel as well. It is far enough away from everything to be quiet and feel peaceful while close enough to be in the centre of it all in no time at all.
We have 2 of the most beautiful beaches on our doorstep, the mountains surrounding us and lately, we seem to be a breeding ground for really good restaurants. We are truly spoilt for choice here of where to go eat, from fine dining to casual to family friendly to your local harbour for good old fish and chips. We also happen to have, according to my coffee snob husband, the best coffee shop in the whole of Cape Town at Hout Bay Roastery which happens to be a hop, skip and a jump from the Hout Bay Manor.
But I am digressing slightly, so let me get back to our night. Before we checked in, we needed to eat as we were starving. We decided to take advantage of not having our kids with us (yip, again…granny rocks!) so headed off to Beau Constantia for a drink and snacks. I will be posting my review next week (plus an exciting giveaway) but for now I will just say it is an amazing spot!
We then went to our hotel and checked in. The Manor, being a ‘listed historical building, was built in 1871 but has been gracefully restored to its former elegance’. This old world charm is reflected in its decor with beautiful pieces of furniture, artwork and memoribillia at every turn. It is all done so tastefully and with such attention to detail it is truly lovely. The rooms are romantic, spacious and the beautiful decor carries through here as well. You can sense the history that this building holds as you walk to your room through the beautiful corridors and in fact throughout the hotel. I am a real sucker for little details as for me, the little details add so much value to anything and everything. So I loved the many little details that we discovered , one of them being the 2 jars on the sideboard in the corridor filled with marshmallows and chocolate coated nuts for when you have a little snack attack. I couldn’t help thinking of how our girls would’ve thought that that was the best thing ever! When we got to our room, we did what any married couple would do when the kids aren’t around and there’s a bed before us…yip, we got in and had a lovely afternoon nap. That’s what you thought I was going to say right? 😉 After our nap, we got up, had something to eat and returned to our bed for a wonderful night of uninterrupted sleep.
The next morning we lazed in bed reading and if it wasn’t for having to get up to eat and check out, I have no doubt we could have dozed off again (yes, we have been lacking sleep lately). Breakfast was yum and we both went all out having the full breakfast with sausage, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and salmon. (I don’t eat bacon so had salmon instead) There is something I love about eating sausage for breakfast as I only ever do it at hotels and so it always feels like I’m on holiday when I have it.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t so great so we couldn’t get to relax by the pool but it looks like a great spot to chill out with a book and a drink. So, because Hout Bay is actually my home, we didn’t need to go exploring and get out and about which meant we didn’t have that experience of being in a new place but it was still wonderful to have a night off in a beautiful hotel where we had nothing to do other than relax, sleep, eat and spend some time together. Sounds good right?
Well, thanks to the Hout Bay Manor, you could have a night away too! Yay! 🙂
I am really so excited about this giveaway as it is such a special treat for one very lucky couple. I already can’t wait to see who’s going to win it! To enter, click here. (Sorry, this giveaway is CLOSED)
