The 1st September officially marks the beginning of spring here in Cape Town. It still feels like I’m waiting for winter to come though as this August feels like it’s spring already. I love the month of September. It could have to do with the fact that it’s my birthday month, along with my daughter’s as well, but there is something about the promise of Spring in the air that brings with it a magical feeling of new beginnings, awakenings and blossoming from within us as well as in the environment around us. We slowly start to shed some layers, the days start getting a bit longer, we come out of our winter hibernation and look forward to the sun starting to shine longer, brighter and hotter. It’s a perfect month to get out and about together. To explore, try new things and have some fun. Hopefully this month’s date night ideas will allow you to do just that!
I recently read a great article by Esther Perel which I shared on my Facebook page called, ‘Each of us is responsible for our own erotic spark‘. I won’t tell you too much about it as it really is worth a read but in it she talks about an exercise to do with your partner. It requires a lot of honesty and openness from both partners but as is the case when we are open and honest with each other, is always worth it. We have yet to do this exercise with each other but it is definitely on my radar to give it a try.
I have recommended Bistro 1682 before on my blog, it is featured in Great Date Night Restaurants In Cape Town and if it wasn’t for my husband and I committing to trying a new restaurant every time we go on date night, I could totally go back here again! I hope it would still live up to my expectations that I now have of it but I truly still think of that one particular prawn dish we had. If you haven’t been there yet, and you can either sneak a date lunch in or have an early dinner out, I would definitely urge you to take advantage of their winter special which is 5 Tapas @ R280 for two people from 5pm-8pm and which has been extended until the end of September.
Westin Full Moon Dining Experience @ ON19 Restaurant
So if you’re into this sort of thing, which I am, then you might find this really interesting. Every full moon, The Westin Cape Town hosts a full moon dining experience at their ON19 Restaurant. Included in this evening is a short talk by event host and astrologer Dianne Garven about the symbolic meaning of the full moon for that month before dinner is served. You also get a personalised birth chart with your details and for an (optional) extra, an elaboration on your personal chart. I’m very intrigued as to what this evening is like…anyone been? The next one is on the 16th September.
Camps bay Retreat
If you’re looking to spoil your someone special but don’t want to venture too far out of Cape Town, then Camps Bay Retreat Private Nature Reserve looks like a beautiful spot to do that. If the weather is on your side, it’s a perfect place to feel like a tourist in your own city and go for walks on the beach, sundowners at one of the many restaurants on the Camps Bay strip, a trip up Table Mountain, a walk up Lions Head or just stay right where you are, go to the spa and do absolutely nothing! It all sounds good to me 🙂
The Victorian Cow
The Victorian Cow, which offers luxury bed and breakfast accommodation in Riebeeck Kasteel looks just gorgeous! We have passed through Riebeeck Kasteel before for lunch and a little wander around the town and it has always been a place I’d like to return to and explore further. The Victorian Cow looks like the perfect little spot for a romantic getaway. Let me know if you’ve been or if you go.
Cafe Roux is such a great place for an intimate evening of music, comedy or whatever happens to be showing. The food is great, the atmosphere cosy and personal and the line up filled with awesome local talent. Have a look at September’s line up as there is sure to be something for everyone. At a glance, what appeals to me is Dan Patlansky on the 13th September and Nik Rabinowitz on the 20th, 22nd, 27th and 28th September. I’m sure those shows will sell out fast so if you want to go, get booking now!
When last did you go Tenpin bowling? This is a great thing to do with friends as a double or triple (is there such a thing?) date night. If you are a parent like me, you might feel like your life is lacking a bit of fun! No, is that just me? Well, this is a great way to have some fun together as well as with your friends. You can go to Stadium On Main in Claremont for a fun filled evening of ten pin bowling and I’m sure a lot of laughs!
Coffee and Chocolate Festival (24th-25th September)
You can’t go very wrong if you mix chocolate with coffee, can you? Hopefully not! Happening at the Green Point Cricket Club, this looks like it should be a fun filled and rather tasty event. Tickets are R100 online and R120 at the door. You can find out more on their site www.coffeechoc.co.za.
Sanparks Free Week (12th-16th/17th/18th September)
This is a great opportunity to to go visit some of our beautiful National parks for free! It happens to be a perfect time of the year to view the flowers as they blossom and show off their majestic beauty for us. Have a look at the list of parks that are open for free and their differing dates on their site www.sanparks.org.
Cape Town Street Food Festival (2nd-4th September)
Ok, so I am a little biased when it comes to Cape Town and all things Cape Town related but we really do have the best of everything here, food included! The Cape Town Street Food Festival hosted by Side Street Studios will be showcasing some of Cape Town’s delicious delights. I am such a sucker for anything market related so this looks like it’s right up my alley, excuse the pun 😉 and would make for a fun and casual date night.
Cape Town Fringe Festival (22 September-8 October)
The Cape Town Fringe Festival is back and offers theatre lovers a huge variety of different shows to see at different venues around Cape Town. There is certain to be something for everyone here. Bookings just opened this week so have a look at what’s on and make sure to book in advance so you don’t miss out.
There you have it! Another month of date night ideas to help you and your loved one get out and spend some time together, have fun, and connect!

Feel free to share this post with friends, family and anyone else you think might need some ideas to help them go on a date night. Or just share it to help share the love. If you haven’t already, it would be great if you could like my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, Instagram, subscribe to my blog for everything date night related and…and…ok. I’ll stop there, I think that’s enough requests for now. Much appreciation if you do any of the above 🙂
