For this month’s “Your Stories,” we meet Meg of thisisusliving.com. On her blog, she shares the story of her recent move from South Africa to Ireland with her husband, Rob. Meg started her blog back in 2013 to track her journey to better health and happiness. Megan and Rob are both travel enthusiasts who strive to lead a more clutter-free life that is filled with adventure. Sounds like a good combination to me 🙂
How long have you been together?
We have been together for a little over 6 years and married for nearly 2 years.
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
We don’t have human children, but do have a fur-baby named Jack.
Has having/not having children changed or affected your relationship in anyway?
If looking after Jack is anything to go by, if we did have children we would spoil them horribly and they would never listen to us – but they would be cute.
How did you first meet?
We met at varsity but I didn’t pay much attention to him. He was friends with good friends of mine so when we started meeting up for dinners while we were working, that’s kind of when we first spoke and got to know each other.
What was it about your partner that you were first attracted to?
His ambition, his drive, his love for travel and adventure and for wanting more from life.
What was the proposal like?
Rob whisked me away for a surprise weekend away (he packed my bags and everything!). We went to the Drakensberg to a place called Injasuti. We went out for a hike, and hiked up to the top of this hill that overlooked the berg, that’s where he proposed – it was so special (apart from the fact that I snorted from shock and tears).
Do you do date nights? If so, what do you normally do?
I love to plan and organise, and hubby is a nerd – the combo leads us to sending each other surprise secret meeting requests so that the time gets allocated in our diaries but the other one knows all the details.
What has been one of your most romantic moments together?
Our honeymoon was magical. Hiking along the cliffs from hole in the wall to coffee bay was spectacular. All our travelling has been so memorable, we love spending quiet moments with each other just taking in the moment and the view.
What funny quirks does your partner have?
He has the most amount of patience for me, but none for himself – he hates it when he feels he has let me down and loves doing special things for me. He is a huge nerd who loves to read current affairs and news abroad – I would say he is the smartest person I know.
What is your idea of the ‘perfect relationship’?
The perfect relationship is perfectly imperfect. Nothing is all sunshine and roses; it’s how you get through the most trying times together that makes your relationship perfect.
“The perfect relationship is perfectly imperfect.”
