Music plays such a significant role in our lives. I might have said this before but it’s amazing how particular moments in our lives are enhanced or are so vivid in our memories because of a song that was playing at the time or during that period in time.
What I love is when songs randomly play and through their lyrics they seem to be sending us a message. Has that ever happened to you? You’re going through something and you’re maybe in the car and a song comes on which seems to be speaking directly to you! I’ve had that a few times and it’s always so magical when it happens. For me, it feels like the universe is talking to me in those moments, supporting me and helping me hear what I need to be hearing.
It makes me think of when my husband and I first got together. We’d been going out for only a couple of months and we went away for our first ‘weekend away’ together. We went to Protea Farm and stayed in a lovely little cottage. I remember snippets from that weekend (it was 13 years ago!) my husband smoking our cottage out with the fireplace, going on a tractor ride, having lots of sex! ;), and just having a great time together. Those first weekends away are always a bit of a test in that you get to see each other in a bit of a different light and it’s the first time spending all that time together.
What I remember quite clearly though is driving back home after our wonderful weekend together, with the music playing and Bob Marley’s song, “Is This Love?” coming on. Quietly driving and listening to the lyrics, when the chorus came on “Is this love, is this love, is this love, is this love that I’m feeling?” both my husband and I looked at each other with a look that said we were thinking and feeling the same thing and I just remember all those butterflies in my tummy fluttering around in there like crazy. It was a truly powerful and beautiful moment as that look between us said it all without having to say a thing. When I listen to this song now, it still takes me back to that feeling right before you realise that you’re falling in love, that feeling of being excited, nervous, scared, exhilarated, all at the same time.
Have you ever had a moment like that? When a song spoke to you so powerfully? Or a similar experience? I really and truly would love to know 🙂
